Yerba Mate
Yerba Mate is a South American herb that is often served inside of a natural gourd and sipped through a special straw (a bombilla). The Yerba Mate plant is an evergreen in the holly family. It contains some caffeine as well as bioactive compounds such as polyphenols and saponins. The flavor is often described as vegetal with a slight bitterness, though Yerba Mate has a fair amount of sweetness as well.
